The iconic camera maker Leica released their first digital camera way back in 1996, at a price of $21,500. And what did one get for that kind of dough? A large ISO 50 sensor that took images at 48 bits, resulting in massive 156 MB image files — 156 MB was a lot back in in 1996.
Called the Leica S1, the digital camera supported 35mm lenses, and developed large images measuring 5140 x 5140 pixels. That’s just over 25 MP. Back in 1996, that too was a lot. You can find more photos of the beauty here.
