Have you ever had a subject that is really hard to photograph? This was the case of this black dog.
I once had a Black Labrador dog before, and pictures of him were hit or miss. Usually you would get a mixture of blurry and something that resembled a shadow. Erik Kessels has created a collection of amateur and “overlooked imagery”, in In Almost Every Picture #9: Black Dog.
#9 features the story of one family’s attempts to photograph their black dog over several decades. Posed usually with his owners in domestic settings, for years the lack of light and camera limitations make the dog appear as a vague blob. Only at the book’s uplifting conclusion does the family’s equipment and technique match their ambition, as their pet is finally captured in all his glory, illustrating a tale of optimism and perseverance.
You can get this paperback book on Amazon for about $38.00.
