All cars after 2014 will have back-up cameras in the U.S.

type="html">

I don’t know if your car has a back-up camera, but soon all cars in the U.S. will be required to have one.

The U.S. government is passing a mandate saying that all vehicles in 2014 must have this feature. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, this feature could prevent nearly 300 deaths and 18,000 injuries related to backovers.

The plan is to get 10 percent of all vehicles be compliant in 2012 model cars, 40 percent in 2013, and then one hundred percent by 2014. There are after-market solutions for this, but I can’t help but wonder if that would mean that all cars would have an in-dash GPS as well. The screen might as well do other things.
